Uruguay drafted a bill to establish the Uruguayan Space Agency in 2022 in order to coordinate space activities in the country.

Uruguay ratified the Outer Space Treaty, the Rescue Agreement, the CTBT and the Partial Test Ban Treaty. It is party to the Liability Convention, the Registration Convention, and a signatory to the Moon Agreement.

Uruguay is a member of COPUOS and has contributed statements relevant to space security to the First Committee and the Disarmament Commission.
