The United Kingdom's outer space program structurally consists of civilian and military components. The UK Space Agency is the leading U.S. civilian outer space authority, and plays a major role in delivering the National Space Strategy.

The Ministry of Defence leads the nation's space defense and military operations, in collaboration with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory. The UK Space Command oversees capabilities programmes and supports the government and Joint Commanders in standing Defence tasks. Contemporary U.K. positions on space security include its Defence Space Strategy: Operationalising the Space Domain and its political commitment not to conduct destructive direct-ascent anti-satellite missile testing.

In 2021, the U.K. tabled resolution 76/231 to establish an Open-ended working group on reducing space threats through norms, rules, and principles of responsible behaviours.
