The Syrian Arab Republic’s space-related activities are primarily centered on remote sensing, telecommunications and scientific research. The General Organization of Remote Sensing (GORS) serves as the country’s principal institution for remote sensing activities and geospatial applications, while the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology oversees information and communications policy. The Ministry of Defense contributes to national security and defence-related functions associated with the aerospace domain, and the Syrian Astronomical Society supports scientific and educational activities related to astronomy and space science.

Syria is party to several international legal instruments governing outer space activities, including the Outer Space Treaty, the Rescue Agreement, the Liability Convention and the Partial Test Ban Treaty.
