The Nigerian outer space programme consists of a civilian and military integrated structure. The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) is the leading space entity in Nigeria tasked with implementing the national policy on space including long range goals and developing a strategy for national space issues. The National Space Council is the apex body of NASRDA charged with the responsibility of developing policy guidelines for activities in the Space and monitoring the implementation of the National Space Programme. The Defence Space Administration (DSA) was established to implement the defence and security aspects of the national space policy and programme. 

The National Space Policy of Nigeria is the leading document guiding the national space activity. In addition, as a member State to the African Union, Nigeria adheres to the established space framework by the African Union including key positions like the African Space Policy and African Space Strategy.
