The National Secretariat for Outer Space, the Moon, and other Celestial Bodies is the body responsible for space-related activities in Nicaragua, including the formulation, proposal, and implementation of general policy guidelines on matters relating to outer space. The body was established by Law No. 1064 and its Secretariat is attached to the Office of the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, and is under the authority of the Nicaraguan Armed Forces.
Nicaragua is party to the Outer Space Treaty, the Rescue Agreement, the Liability Convention, the Registration Convention, the Partial Test Ban Treaty, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, and the International Telecommunication Constitution and Convention.
Nicaragua is a member State to the International Telecommunication Union, Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency, and a subscribing State to the Hague Code of Conduct Against Ballistic Missile Proliferation.
Key space security initiatives include Nicaragua's political commitment not to be the first to place weapons in outer space.
