The Malawi Space Agency under the aegis of Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), was established in 2023 with its office based in Lilongwe, Malawi. The Agency oversees all the operational aspects of space activities in Malawi, and its mission is to leverage the potential of space for transformed socio-economic development in Malawi.
Malawi is party to the Partial Test Ban Treaty, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and the International Telecommunication Constitution and Convention. The country is also a member State to the International Telecommunication Union, African Space Agency, and a subscribing State to the Hague Code of Conduct Against Ballistic Missile Proliferation.
As a member State to the African Union, Malawi adheres to the established space framework by the African Union including key positions like the African Space Policy and African Space Strategy.
