The Kenyan Ministry of Defence coordinates and regulates the State's civilian and military space related activities. The Kenya Space Agency was established under the Ministry of Defence through the Kenya Space Agency Order 2017 and is mandated to promote, coordinate and regulate space related activities in the country.

Key contemporary documents include the Kenya Space Policy 2015, the Defence White Paper and the current draft of Kenya's Space Bill 2024.

As a member State to the African Union, Kenya adheres to the established space framework by the African Union including key positions like the African Space Policy and African Space Strategy.
