The German outer space program consists of civil-military integration. The DLR, the German Aerospace Center, serves as Germany's space agency and implements space strategies of the Federal Government. In 2021, Bundeswehr Space Command was stood up under the authority of the German Air Force. One department under the Space Command is the German Space Situational Awareness Center, which is a civil-military facility operated by the German space command and space agency.

Germany's space activity is guided by several key contemporary documents including the National Security Strategy released in 2023, Defence Policy Guidelines 2023, and the German Federal Government's Space Strategy. In addition, as a member State to the European Union, Germany adheres to the EU space framework including key positions such as the Space Strategy for Europe and the European Union Space Strategy for Security and Defence.

A key contemporary position is Germany's commitment not to conduct destructive direct-ascent anti-satellite missile testing.
