In Finland, the space team of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment acts as the Finnish space office and serves as the secretariat to the Space Committee. The Committe brings together different governmental entities, including the Ministry of Defense, and plays a central role in Finland's space administration, guiding the implementation of the national space strategy.
In addition to legislative developments, Finland adopted a new space strategy in 2025 with a particular focus on the development of the space sector, technologies, the changing geopolitical landscape and international cooperation. Finland's latest defense report also has a section on space defense and presents priorities in this area such harnessing satellite services for military purposes and protect space assets against threats.
As a member State to the European Union, Finland adheres to the established space framework by the European Union including but not limited to the Space Strategy for Europe and the European Union Space Strategy for Security and Defence, and the political commitment not to conduct destructive, direct-ascent anti-satellite (ASAT) missile testing.
