<p>Ecuador outer space activity is managed through its military framework. The Geographic Military Institute assumed all functions and responsibilities of the Ecuador Space Institute after its closure. The Direction of Cartographic, Geographic, and Spatial Research under the Geographic Military Institute is the primary body responsible for carrying out space related activity of the State.</p><p>A key position on space security is Ecuador's <a href="https://cms.spacesecurityportal.org/uploads/A_RES_80_20_EN_8e8d3fdf0b.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">political commitment</a> not to be the first to place weapons in outer space.</p>
