Burundi has signed key international space treaties, including the Outer Space Treaty, the Liability Convention, and the Registration Convention, demonstrating its commitment to responsible space activities. Since 2003, Burundi has also been a subscribing State to the Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation. In 2020, it further reinforced its support for peaceful uses of outer space by signing the Joint Declaration with the Russian Federation on No First Placement of Weapons in Outer Space. As a Member State of the African Union, Burundi aligns with the AU’s space framework, including the African Space Policy and the African Space Strategy.
