Bolivia is an active participant in regional and international space governance, notably as a founding member of the Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency (ALCE) and a long-standing member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). It is also party to the International Telecommunication Constitution and Convention. In multilateral arms-control and space-related treaties, Bolivia has ratified the Partial Test Ban Treaty and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
Nationally, Bolivia’s space activities are led by the Bolivian Space Agency (ABE), created in 2010 to expand the benefits of space technology for national development. ABE’s work began with Túpac Katari-1 and has since expanded to include new satellite initiatives and efforts to strengthen domestic expertise in space science and engineering.
