Austria organizes civil and military space activities in a separate but complementary manner.
For civil space activities, Austria's Aeronautics and Space Agency (ALR) implements aerospace policy and represents Austria internationally. The Austrian Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) is the competent space authority in Austria. It is therefore responsible for the authorisation and supervision of national space activities as well as the registration of space objects.
Austria's key policies on outer space include its Space Strategy 2030+ and the Austrian Military Space Strategy 2035+. An additional key position is Austria's commitment not to conduct destructive direct-ascent anti-satellite missile testing.
Additionally, as a member State to the European Union, Austria adheres to the EU space framework including key positions such as the Space Strategy for Europe and the European Union Space Strategy for Security and Defence.
